So much to write....

But not much time! As I write, Chloe is waking up and probably ready to eat. I really need to write about her birth and our first week home. I know, one day at a time! So I'll start with the birth story...
Jan. 26th, Tuesday, Bob and I went to the hospital for me to be induced with Cervidil. It was really hard for me to leave Katelyn that evening. I knew she was in good hands with my mom, but I couldn't help but cry as I walked out the door. Knowing that when I walked through the doors again, nothing would ever be the same again, it was very bittersweet. Katelyn and Mommy time would have to be shared and not knowing how she would handle that really worried me....
Before going to the hospital, we stopped at Walgreens to pick out Redbox movies to watch that night on the portable dvd player. At 7:00pm we got to the maternity floor and they told us to go to room 568 and wait for a nurse. We ended up waiting an hour. Bob and I were getting upset and frustrated, but that went away when we found out that there had been 5 births in the past hour so everyone was a little busy.
At 9:00 the nurse hooked me up to an IV (after missing the vein in my hand and having to put it in my other arm) for the antibiotic. I also got Cervidil inserted about the same time by Dr. Ginter. They also had to hook me up to monitors to keep track of the baby's heartbeat and contractions. Bob and I tried to watch Night at the Museum, but couldn't concentrate on it so we put it away and tried to get some sleep. Poor Bob had to sleep in the most uncomfortable chair imaginable and I was hooked up to monitors that kept beeping so needless to say, neither one of us got much sleep. At 7:30 the next morning, Kim Amsley-Camp came in to check my progress. I was at 2 cm so she went ahead and broke my water. Talk about ewwww!
Not long after that, Nichole (my nurse) and Lori (nurse in training) started the Pitocin to speed up the contractions and also the antibiotic again. The contractions went on for an hour before I decided to get the Epidural. They had to run a full bag of fluids through me first and then the anesthesiologist came in to do his thing. If the pain of the contractions wasn't so bad, I would never get an Epidural b/c I hate the idea of anything under my skin or in my veins. Ugh, makes me shudder just thinking about it! Almost immediately, I could feel the intensity of the contractions starting to fade. After about 20 minutes I got so relaxed that I almost fell asleep.
Bob and Dorothy came in then to see how we were doing. They stayed in the room with us for about an hour. During that hour, I progressed to 6 cm and then all of a sudden I got this intense need to push. Kim had just checked me though so she didn't think I could possibly be at 10 cm yet. For 15 minutes I had to deal with that excruciating pressure. Kim also thought I just needed more meds so she had called for the anesthesiologist to come back and increase them. Finally Kim decided to check me again and said,"Oh, my, she's at 10 and that baby is coming NOW" The nurses rushed around getting things finalized and the next contraction I was allowed to push. Three pushes and 9 minutes later, out popped Chloe Diane Boyce, weighing in at 9 lbs. 6 oz and 21 inches long. Kim laid her down on my chest immediately and I can't even put into words all the emotions going on inside me. Love, relief, joy, pain....so beautiful and sweet!
