My birthday weekend in Williamsburg

For my 32nd birthday, Bob and I decided to take the girls to Williamsburg, VA. Katelyn has been there once before when she was 2 years old, but obviously doesn't remember anything about it.  She's been so interested in history lately that we thought it was time to introduce the town that Bob and I love so much to her and Chloe.  We arrived around 1:30pm, got our tickets, and went straight to the colonial part.  As soon as we got off the bus, we found horses.
The maze and gardens at the Governor's Palace is a great place to start with kids.  As you can see above, Katelyn has her own camera.  I created a scavenger hunt for her to do and she had to take pictures of everything on the list:

1.     Three (3) animals
2.   Brick house
3.   Tools
4.   Something round
5.    Two (2) toys
6.   Jail (Gaol)
7.    Fence
8.   Something blue
9.   Food
10.    Triangular Hat
Bonus: Horse poop, fire
(I'll create another post of all the things she got pictures of)
Katelyn led us through the maze with very little help.  She definitely doesn't have mine or Bob's sense of direction.  We get lost in our home town sometimes! haha
While walking down by the stream, we noticed a bird standing on the path.  We were able to get this close before it flew off.
When I think of Williamsburg, my first thought is relaxing.  For the 10 minutes that we were walking around the grounds, we didn't see anyone else.
 The Governor's Palace
On our 2nd day, Bob and Katelyn went on a tour of the Palace which Katelyn loved.  At one point during the tour, she told Bob that it was just like Mamma and Pap's house.  She got a few strange looks from the others on the tour.  I'll have to post some pictures of my parents' house sometime.  It is straight out of Williamsburg!  My dad is brilliant at wood working and recreating structures.
Crooked picture, oops!  In front of the Governor's Palace
There are some crazy looking, very old trees in Williamsburg.  This one has to be at least 150 years old!
 Behind the cabinet makers shop

 Cookie break!
Katelyn thought this contraption was pretty cool....until I threatened to leave her in it if she didn't behave! LOL
(Actually, she was very well behaved on this trip.  I was proud of her! And I don't think it had anything to do with my threat.)
Market Square...lots of shopping and restaurants
This is the mascot for William and Mary College which is just down the street.  It's the college I always wanted to attend, but the tuition was just too high.
We checked out the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Museum.  One of my favorite exhibits has always been the dollhouses.  Unfortunately, we found out that they only display them during the holidays:(  The girls now want to come back in December.  Maybe next year!
A couple of years ago, Bob and I bought each of the girls a mob hat.  I think that's what it's officially called.  The girls wanted to call them 'bonnets'.
 Katelyn loved wearing hers!

We ate dinner at King's Arms Tavern.  I got Game Pye, Bob got some kind of beef,  and the girls split a chicken strip dinner.  We were offered some relishes and bread as appetizers.  The girls wouldn't even try the relishes, but devoured the bread.

Being my birthday, a man playing a string instrument (like a guitar) sang 'For She's a Jolly Good Lady' to me along with the rest of the people in the room where we ate.  No cake for my birthday this year....Meringue Shell with hot fudge!!!!  Mmmmm...my favorite dessert ever!!!
After dinner, Bob and I sat on a bench while the girls pretended to be wizards.  Better watch out, girls, the townspeople will have a Witch Trial if they think you're serious;)

Another strange looking tree to pose by
It was very hot on Sunday, but that didn't keep us from having a good time.
We ate lunch at Retro Diner.  The girls loved the spinning bar stools:)
Perfect way to spend my birthday weekend...with my favorite guy and girls in my favorite vacation spot!
